Who are you?

I am Birgit Kadak – mother of two adorable children Karl Richard and Amelia, wife, Bebe Organic designer and entrepreneur. I used to live in London but after having children I found my way back to home city Tallinn, Estonia.

How long have you been a designer?

From as far back as I can remember, I was always on the fashion road. As a kid I loved dressing up dolls and barbies with dresses and swearers made by my mother as during that time there wasn’t much in stores. My mother has inspired me a lot as she loves to knit and sew. At school I was involved organizing fashion shows where I always took part. I also developed a model school for young girls where they learned about fashion industry. After graduating high school I started my BA and MA degrees in leading global provider of fashion education University of Arts London, London College of Fashion. Living in this cosmopolitan city I took various internships and work experiences in design houses like Alberta Ferretti, Roland Mouret etc. These experiences teached me enormous amount about design and retail. It was an incredible experience which lead me to design.

In 2013 I gave birth to my first child. He was diagnosed with atopic eczema, a sensitive skin condition when he was six months old. I wanted to offer him the best clothing for his skin. After much exploring of baby fashion I found very few brands that satisfied my needs and wishes. Also during that time Greenpeace released a study stating that hazardous chemicals had been found in children’s and infants clothing across a number of major clothing brands, including fast fashion, sportswear and luxury brands. As a young and concerned mother I found it natural for me to design baby clothing with organic materials that would not harm children and infants and are pieces of elegant and timeless fashion. This is the story behind Bebe Organic.

What does style mean to you?

It is all about timeless cuts, good quality materials, comfort, proportions, color, patterns….

Is there something you would never put on a child?

As I am concerned about materials used for children’s clothing, I observe all the brands I buy for my children. I would never buy them any synthetic clothing and footwear. Also I try to look for fair trade products if possible. Also I would never put on a child crocks shoes. I consider footwear very important for children as they are developing posture and balance. It is important to buy shoes that are flexible with a shock absorbing sole and heel and allow the foot to breathe.

What’s your favorite time of the year?

I had to think long about this question. I love having snow at Christmas time and also bitter cold. I enjoy hot weather, beaches and forest lakes during summer and also falling leaves in autumn. But most of all I love early spring for its melting snow and sunshine. I absolutely love cherry blossoms and green grass smell. Oh and Easter and cooking Pasha cake..

What are the best things in your life?

My family- my loving and super supportive husband, my children, my dog Yorkshire terrier Alaia and my friends. Also I love art, literature, traveling and cooking.

What’s the latest wow-moment you had?

I gave birth month ago to my precious baby girl Amelia. I wanted to deliver naturally and meeting her was moment for life.
